School Daze

On Friday, we visited two more schools.  These schools are located in the "compound" - a very poor area of the city.  The buildings are all made of gray cement block with corrugated metal roofs.  The spaces between the houses are also used as roads and the soil is compacted.  Each school is surrounded by walls.

We drive our van into these areas and just when I am thinking that an area looks pretty scary, the van has stopped and we are hopping out!  Yikes! We walked into a church, where three groups of children were gathered around chalkboards doing math.  Sarah and Ryan (our pre-teens) began their lesson on how to make Rainbow Loom bracelets.  We broke the kids into smaller groups for a little one-to-one instruction.

The bracelets were a big hit!  Kids loved making them and they looked great.  I thought it would be fun to follow up with a little balloon volleyball for those kids that finished early.  Let's just say the kids responded much enthusiasm!  Their teachers looked on with mouths agape!  Most schools only have half day sessions here....I am sure the teachers were happy to send them home after we riled them up!
