Necessity is the Mother of Invention

I do a lot of work with kids and problem solving.  Solving the problem of survival and lack of resources makes the world of the compound one of ingenuity and entrepreneurship.

We were visiting the School of St Stephens where the acting-principal introduced us to her classes. Outside the classes there was a great game of soccer (football) going on.  Many of the games we have seen have been with balls made out of plastic bags.
We took our homemade Rainbow Looms and bands into the older student's class.  We only had 21 Looms, so students had to take turns, one boy used his two fingers instead of the two nails on the loom....genius!  I am waiting for them all to figure out a replacement for the rubber bands (reusing plastic bags?) and starting a business on the side!

Students only stay for a half day of instruction.  This school stores food and eggs for the disabled school down the road.  The students from the school came to pick them up with a wheelbarrow.  I thought the name of the school - on the side of the wheelbarrow was telling.  (Wheelbarrows are used to deliver furniture, food, coal, you name it....have wheelbarrow will travel!)
